Greenheart

I won't lie to you, I thought the only fair trade clothes I would buy would be scarfs or clothing that had a pretty "multicultural/global" feel, if you know what I mean.  Or an occasional fair trade t shirt that comes my way.
Greenheart, a store my sister stumbled upon in Wicker Park, Chicago, has disrupted that view of mine.
Like most online fair trade shops, it's not always gonna be cheap, but it's worth the investment.  Just look at that dress ($36.95)! Adorable.  If you visit the site, you can see how it may also be worn loose.  If you visit the site, I guarantee, even if it's not a clothing item or jewelry, SOMETHING will catch your eye.

Also, they sell all types of goodies.  Check out this excerpt from a recent email they sent out about chocolate:

"The US Department of State estimates that more than 109,000 children in Cote d'Ivoire's cocoa industry work under "the worst forms of child labor," and that some 10,000 are victims of human trafficking or enslavement."

Children are bought from their parents for as little as $50, with the promise that they'll be given a better life and the chance to send money back home.  This never happens, as "...these children, usually 12-to-14-years-old but sometimes younger, are forced to do hard manual labor 80 to 100 hours a week. They are paid nothing, are barely fed, are beaten regularly, and are often viciously beaten if they try to escape. Most will never see their families again." (FoodRevolution.org)

Eating chocolate doesn't have to have a negative effect on the world. Eat Fair Trade Chocolate like that sold at Greenheart Shop."

For two more days, shipping is only $1!

I'll be posting photos from my recent purchases from Greenheart and some thrift stores.  Happy shopping!
